The Faculty of Biology was founded in 1930.

The following specialities and specializations are available:

Qualification: Biologist. Teacher of Biology and Chemistry
Term of study: 5 years Full-time education
6 years Part-time education

Qualification allows: to work as a Biology and Chemistry teacher at all secondary and specialized secondary educational establishments; to work at scientific research, research and production, production establishments and enterprises of all forms of ownership; to work at nature preserves, botanical and zoological gardens, specialized and natural history museums, biological stations and centres.

Specialization: 1 – 75 01 01 01 Forest Science and Management

Qualification: Forestry manager              
Term of study: 4,5 years Full-time education
                         5,5 years Part-time education

Qualification allows: to work at forest management enterprises, forest regulation enterprises and certification services; to work at scientific research, commercial manufacturing and educational establishments, national parks and preserves, forest hunting enterprises; enterprises using minor forest products.

The faculty comprises 5 departments:

- Department of Plant Botany and Physiology Head of the department – Associate professor N. Dayneko, Candidate of Biological Sciences.
- Department of Zoology and Nature Protection Head of the department – Professor G. Goncharenko, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Doctor of Biological Sciences.
- Department of Human and Animal Physiology Head of the department – Associate professor L. Yevtukhova, Candidate of Agricultural Sciences.
- Department of Chemistry  Head of the department – Associate professor N. Drozdova, Candidate of Chemical Sciences.
- Department of Agricultural Sciences  Head of the department – M. Lazareva, Candidate of Agricultural Sciences.

Two branches of the Department of Agricultural Sciences were established on the basis of:
1) The Republican subsidiary forest management unitary project enterprise “Gomellesproyekt”, headed by Associate professor F. Burak;
2) The State scientific establishment “Forest Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus”, headed by the director of the institute A. Kovalevich.

Faculty staff:
- 2 Corresponding Members of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus;
- 4 Doctors of Sciences;
- 30 Associate professors;
- 3 Senior Lecturers;
- 19 teaching assistants;
- 21 laboratory assistants.
The students take summer field practice at the biological centre “Chenki”.

The following post-graduate courses are available: Botany, Zoology, Genetics, Human and Animal Physiology, Radiobiology, Analytical Chemistry.
There also functions a Dissertation Council (K 02.12.05), considering theses on Ecology subjects, and an interdepartmental research laboratory “Ecosystems Monitoring”.

As for research activity, there are 2 research societies:
1. Research society headed by Professor L. Sapegin studying the structure and productivity of pratal phytocenoses;
2. Research society headed by Professor G. Goncharenko studying population and genetic resources of Belarussian forests.
